CBD Found Promising in Helping You Quit Smoking
According to the American Cancer Society, almost 1/2 million people die from, and cigarette smoking is leading the charge that claims nearly 20% of all deaths in the United States. In 2016, more than 15% of people over the age of 18 smoked cigarettes regularly. That means almost 20 million Americans are living with a smoking-related disease.
Number 2 on the list of leading causes of death is cancer. It is very well documented that smoking cigarettes can and does cause cancer. Even though cigarette smoking is on the decline in the U.S., there are a lot more people that need to stop. CBD is here to help.
Research studies imply that inhaling CBD instead of nicotine may help people reduce or quit smoking. There was a pilot study performed with 24 smokers (DB-RCT), CBD lowered the number of smoked cigarettes by approximately 40%, and did not increase the craving for nicotine (“Cannabidiol reduces cigarette consumption in tobacco smokers: preliminary findings”). According to the study, the role of the endocannabinoid system in nicotine addiction is being increasingly acknowledged.
The study concluded that its preliminary data, combined with the strong preclinical rationale for the use of this compound, suggest CBD be a potential treatment for nicotine addiction that warrants further exploration.
